From the Runway to the Fitting Room
You Already Know the Direction.
Now Let’s Get Dressed.
We have already talked about the return of a more constructed silhouette: the deliberate shoulder, the located waist, the jacket that curves rather than simply falling straight from the body.
So I do not want to spend this edit explaining the same thing again.
Instead, I want to take the conversation somewhere much more useful.
Imagine we have left the runway, opened the shopping tabs and walked into the fitting room together.
I pulled pieces at very different prices because there is no single correct way to participate in a fashion direction. You may want the designer piece you originally fell in love with. You may prefer another designer’s interpretation. You may discover that a €250 jacket is actually the one you like best. Or you may realize that your closet already contains enough to make the proportion work.
The purpose of understanding fashion is not to talk ourselves out of beautiful things. It is to understand what we want well enough to choose them deliberately.

A defined middle. Deliberate shoulders. Curved jackets. Peplum. Controlled volume. Clothes that create shape rather than simply following it.

Four Things I’m Checking
Where does the waist actually land?
On a highly constructed garment, a few centimetres can completely change the proportion.
Does the shoulder architecture fit?
Sleeve length can be altered. A fundamentally wrong shoulder is a much more difficult problem.
Does the fabric hold the idea?
A sculpted silhouette depends on material. If the fabric collapses where the design requires structure, the photograph and the fitting room may tell very different stories.
Do I love this piece — or only the idea around it?
Remove the runway, campaign and styling for a moment. Is the garment itself still exciting?
The Knit Option

Why I Pulled It
This is the easiest way into the shape if you like the waist definition but do not necessarily want another blazer. The knit itself does the work: close through the torso, narrow through the middle and then released again below.
I’d Wear It With
Wide dark trousers and a pointed shoe. A narrow midi skirt. Or very simple denim when I wanted the top to do almost everything.

Where the narrowest point and flare land on your torso. With this kind of piece, the vertical placement matters almost as much as the size.

Would I Buy It?
Yes — particularly if you want this direction without committing to full tailoring. The top already contains enough information that the rest of the outfit can be incredibly quiet.
My Styling Note
I would not over-style this. Dark straight trousers, a long narrow skirt or even denim. The whole reason to buy it is the cut — let the cut remain visible.
The Fitting-Room Question
Does the asymmetry sit beautifully when you move, or only when you stand exactly as the product photograph asks you to?

This is where I would take the idea into evening. The black keeps the silhouette controlled while the shape gives it enough drama that jewellery and accessories can remain restrained.
I’d Build the Outfit Around
A long black skirt and pointed heel for the cleanest version; tailored trousers for something less formal; or blue denim if I wanted to break the polish.
What Not to Add
Another complicated silhouette. If the top is already sculpting the torso, I would let the bottom create length rather than another competing shape.

Who I Think This Is For
Someone who does not want this to be a one-night trend piece. This is the kind of jacket I would consider if defined tailoring already makes sense with the trousers, skirts and denim in my closet.

These are not substitutes for one another. They are different answers to a similar moment in fashion. The useful question is not which brand wins. It is which interpretation you actually want to live with.

Price Changes.
The Questions Shouldn’t.
A lower price does not automatically make a purchase smarter. A higher price does not automatically make a garment better for your closet.
So for the rest of the fitting room, I want to keep applying exactly the same standards: Do I like the cut? Does the fabric support it? Would I wear it? Does it work with the rest of my clothes? And most importantly, am I excited about this actual garment?
An affordable purchase you do not really want is not automatically smarter than an expensive purchase you love.

Stop Posing.
Move.
Sculpted clothing can be especially deceptive when we judge it only in a perfect mirror pose.
Sit down. Raise your arms. Put your hands in the pockets. Button it. Unbutton it. Turn sideways. Walk around. Wear it over the layer you would actually put underneath.
The question is not simply whether the garment can create a beautiful photograph.
Can the architecture survive your actual life?

Four Ways I’d Actually Wear It
Look 01 • Day

If the answer is the €2,290 jacket and it makes sense for you, wonderful. If it is the €250 one, wonderful. The point was never to arrive at the cheapest answer. The point was to arrive at your answer.
Leaving the Fitting Room
The Best Purchase Is Not Always the Most Sensible-Looking One.
Sometimes you try on the expensive jacket and immediately understand why you wanted it.
Sometimes you discover that the less expensive piece fits you better.
Sometimes you leave without anything because the version you really want has not appeared yet.
And sometimes you buy the runway piece because you love the runway piece.
All of those can be intelligent decisions.
Fashion education should make shopping more enjoyable, not turn shopping into something you have to defend.
