GTWJ FALL 2026 FASHION FORECAST
The State of
Fall Fashion 2026
What is rising. What is selling. What people are searching for. What the runways are proposing. And which Fall 2026 ideas appear strong enough to matter beyond Fashion Week.
Every fashion season gives us hundreds of possible trends. The difficult part is not finding them. The difficult part is working out which ones actually matter.
Something can appear on three important runways and never become particularly relevant outside them. Something else can suddenly explode in search because one photograph went viral. Retailers can heavily stock an idea that consumers never fully adopt. And sometimes a silhouette quietly appears in all of those places at once.
So for the GTWJ Fall 2026 Forecast, we looked beyond a traditional runway trend report. We studied what designers are proposing, what is accelerating in search, what is increasing in retail, what is gaining market adoption, what is appearing in street style and where several of those signals begin to overlap.
And when you put all of that information together, Fall 2026 begins to tell a remarkably coherent story.
The GTWJ Forecast
“Fall 2026 is moving from quiet clothes toward clothes with information.”
Shape. Texture. Proportion. Surface. Collars. Accessories. The details are becoming visible again.
A collar tells us something. A fur cuff tells us something. A curved trouser changes the architecture of the lower body. A pointed shoe changes the ending of the silhouette. A scarf changes the neckline. A belt reconstructs the waist. Croc embossing gives a bag identity through surface rather than simply through branding.
Even the season's romantic movement is becoming more specific. Lace is becoming darker. Velvet is becoming richer. Historical references are appearing beside practical outerwear. Feminine details are being interrupted by harder shoes, heavier coats and sharper tailoring.
The word I keep returning to is specificity. Fall 2026 does not necessarily want more clothing. It wants clothing with more character.

01. The High Neck
Funnel necks, standing collars, scarf collars and face-framing outerwear form one of Fall 2026's clearest directional shifts.
+875%
Year-on-Year Search Growth
★★★★★
Very High Confidence
This is the number that immediately deserves attention. Search interest in funnel-neck jackets has increased 875% year on year. But what makes the high neck especially convincing is not the percentage by itself.
High collars are appearing across the fashion system at the same time: runway collections, street style, product demand and retail. Earlier in 2026, a Saint Laurent stand-collar jacket also became the hottest product in one of fashion's major global shopping-demand rankings.
Put those signals together and this becomes bigger than one popular jacket. Fashion is moving attention upward toward the neck and face.
That changes proportion immediately. A raised collar can make an otherwise simple jacket feel architectural. It can visually strengthen the shoulder, frame the jaw and make outerwear identifiable before we even register its color.
GTWJ Read
The important trend is not one exact funnel-neck jacket. It is the return of the neckline as architecture.

02. Fur, Shearling & the Return of Tactility
The fur story is much larger than the fur coat.

Fur is spreading across categories: coats, hats, bags, collars, cuffs, gloves and footwear. At the same time, shearling and large face-framing collars have been highly visible in the Fall collections.
This is why the suede jacket with fur trim matters so much this season. It sits at the intersection of several larger movements at once: tactile outerwear, brown, shearling, visible collars and practical autumn dressing.

03. Tailoring Finds the Waist
The oversized blazer is not suddenly forbidden. But tailoring is becoming much more interested in shape.
+340%
Belted Jackets · Year-on-Year Growth
Belted jackets are showing extraordinary growth, while shoulder construction and waist definition are becoming increasingly visible throughout tailoring.
The newness is not simply that jackets are becoming “fitted.” It is the relationship between volume and control. Strong shoulders can move inward toward a narrow waist. A substantial coat can be cinched. A peplum can create deliberate expansion at the hip. Curved seams can create shape even without a belt.
Fall 2026 tailoring is becoming architectural again.

04. Wide Becomes Curved
The next trouser conversation is not simply wide versus narrow. It is about where the volume goes.

Barrel-Leg Shapes
Tracked Shapes Sold Out · FW25
This is important because it contradicts the idea that barrel trousers are simply “over.” Commercial evidence suggests curved volume has already found an audience, while the balloon silhouette is accelerating much more aggressively.
Look at the shape rather than the trend name. A traditional wide leg tends to fall downward. A barrel or balloon leg moves outward before returning inward. That curve changes the relationship between the leg, the shoe and the upper half of the outfit.
The Fall 2026 trouser is increasingly being designed as a silhouette rather than simply a width.

05. Romance Gets Darker

The important thing here is breadth. Lace is not being forecast only in one dress shape. It is moving through tops, skirts, dresses, trousers, trims and accessories.
Combined with velvet, brocade, historical references, darker reds, dramatic coats and pointed footwear, it produces a version of romance that feels richer and slightly stranger than the soft summer bohemian mood that preceded it.
“Less summer bohemia. More velvet, lace, plum, old-world texture and dramatic outerwear.”
GTWJ Confidence · ★★★★★
06. The Scarf Becomes Styling Again
Not merely something you put on because the temperature dropped.
+149%
Triangle Scarf · Year-on-Year Growth
Scarves are moving back into the visual centre of the outfit: tied closely around the neck, worn triangularly, wrapped over outerwear, placed on the head or used as an additional layer of color and pattern.
This is one of the easiest Fall 2026 signals to experiment with because it does not require replacing anything. It changes how the eye moves through clothes you may already own.
GTWJ Confidence · ★★★★★
07. The Foot Becomes Deliberate
The Fall shoe is increasingly expected to contribute something to the silhouette.
+73%
Pointed-Toe Heels
Market Adoption
+115%
Equestrian Boots
Year-on-Year Growth
Across the Fall collections, the footwear story expands beyond those two data points: exaggerated pointed toes, tall boots, lace-ups, satin shoes, prints and color blocking all make the foot more visible.
The common denominator is intention. A sharply pointed shoe extends the line of the body. A tall boot changes the relationship between skirt and leg. A lace-up introduces detail. Satin introduces surface.
There may not be one universal “It shoe” this fall. The stronger forecast is that the shoe itself is becoming more directional.

08. Bags Are Being Recognised by Shape & Surface
Recognition does not have to come from a logo.
+109%
Bowler Bags
Market Adoption
+34%
Snakeskin Bags
Market Adoption
Bowler shapes, croc embossing, snakeskin, fur, clutches, soft leather and top handles all point toward a bag market interested in more recognisable physical character.
This is the larger story behind the no-logo conversation: the bag can communicate what it is through proportion, material, hardware and shape before branding enters the picture.
GTWJ Confidence · ★★★★
09. The Cape Moves Closer to Reality
+217%
Cape Arrivals · Year-on-Year Retail Growth
The cape is a perfect example of why we look at retail as well as runway. Designers have proposed capes many times before. What makes the current signal more interesting is the substantial increase in actual product arrivals.
That does not mean everyone needs one. It means retailers are making a significantly larger commercial bet on the silhouette. For GTWJ, that moves capes from “interesting runway recurrence” toward a credible Fall 2026 direction.
Fall 2026 Color Forecast
Brown Evolves. Red Deepens. Bright Color Survives.
The palette is getting richer rather than simply darker.
Chestnut
Cinnamon
Camel
Aubergine
Maroon
Brown remains one of fashion's most important color families, but the movement is becoming more nuanced. Chestnut, oak, cinnamon, camel and lighter earth tones expand the story beyond the very dark chocolate brown that dominated earlier seasons.
At the same time, plum, aubergine, maroon and purple-red shades are strengthening. Plum retail arrivals have shown triple-digit growth, while darker purple-red visibility is forecast to continue rising.
But do not mistake this for an entirely muted autumn. Color blocking and saturated combinations remain highly visible across the Fall collections.
The Macrotrend
Texture may be the real story of Fall 2026.
Shearling · Fur · Suede · Lace · Velvet · Satin · Brocade · Jacquard · Croc · Snakeskin · Metallics · Embroidery
There is a useful question to ask when looking at Fall 2026 imagery:
What does the garment look like it would feel like?
That question captures an enormous amount of what is happening. Fashion photographs are becoming tactile again. You can imagine the roughness of suede, the softness of shearling, the delicacy of lace, the shine of satin, the raised surface of croc embossing.
After seasons in which silhouette and neutral color often did much of the visual work, surface is becoming information.
Movement to Watch · ★★★★
Technical Clothing Gets More Polished
Sport continues to influence fashion, but one of the more interesting developments is the collision between technical clothing and more traditionally polished or feminine pieces.
Think windbreakers with skirts. Performance fabrics beside elegant tailoring. Sport references with refined footwear. Rugby and prep elements interrupted by something more sophisticated.
The technical garment does not have to make the entire outfit athletic. It can simply provide contrast.
Search Behaviour
Seeing something and searching for it are different actions.
Runway visibility tells us what fashion is proposing. Search behaviour tells us what people have become curious enough to actively investigate.
That is why the extraordinary acceleration around high-neck outerwear matters. People are not simply encountering the silhouette in photographs. They are beginning to look for it.
Search alone cannot tell us whether an item will become a lasting part of the market. But when search acceleration appears beside runway repetition, street-style visibility and actual product demand, the signal becomes substantially stronger.
Important
+1,600% does not automatically mean “bigger trend” than +875%.
The balloon-trouser figure measures growth in social interest. The funnel-neck figure measures search growth. The cape figure measures retail arrivals. The bowler-bag figure measures market adoption.
They answer different questions. This is why GTWJ looks at the evidence together rather than creating a false ranking from percentages that measure different behaviour.

Turning Data Into Clothes
What do you actually do with all of this?
You do not need eighteen trends. Decide which part of your existing clothes you want Fall 2026 to change.
Want to Change the Shape?
Start with silhouette.
Look at a high-neck jacket, curved trouser, waist-defined jacket, cape or coat with a stronger shoulder.
Want to Change the Texture?
Change the surface.
Look at suede, lace, velvet, fur trim, shearling, croc embossing or satin.
Want to Change the Styling?
Use something visible.
A scarf, belt, brooch, glove or stronger piece of jewellery can alter clothes you already wear.
Want to Change the Ending?
Change the shoe.
Try a pointed toe, equestrian boot or tall boot strong enough to deliberately finish the silhouette.
The GTWJ Shopping Read
Look for pieces that change clothes you already own.
If I were translating this entire forecast into a useful shopping lens, I would not begin with a list of eighteen products.
I would look first at outerwear because Fall 2026 is unusually strong there. A high-neck jacket, tactile suede or shearling piece, sculpted coat or interesting waist can change dozens of outfits underneath it.
Then I would look at the bottom of the outfit: does a curved trouser introduce a proportion you do not already own? Does a pointed shoe make familiar trousers suddenly feel sharper? Would a tall boot change the skirts and dresses already in your closet?
And only then would I look at smaller signals: the scarf, belt, textured bag, lace piece or decorative accessory capable of introducing the season without requiring an entirely new way of dressing.
The Other Side of Forecasting
Do not build a Fall 2026 costume.
A funnel-neck jacket, balloon trouser, fur bag, triangle scarf, chunky belt, lace top and equestrian boot may all be relevant to the same season. That does not mean they belong in the same outfit — or the same closet.
Trend knowledge becomes useful when it expands your vocabulary. It becomes less useful when it turns into an instruction sheet.
You can understand why something matters without deciding that it belongs to you.
The Final Forecast
Fall 2026 is not about becoming someone else.
It is about clothes becoming more specific.
A jacket has a collar you remember. A coat has enough presence to become the outfit. A trouser creates a shape rather than simply being wide. A shoe gives the silhouette a deliberate ending. A bag identifies itself through texture. A scarf changes the neckline. A belt changes the architecture of outerwear.
Lace, velvet, suede, shearling and fur give surfaces something to say. Chestnut and cinnamon expand brown. Aubergine and plum deepen red. Saturated color prevents autumn from becoming visually predictable.
None of this means simplicity has disappeared. Some of the strongest Fall 2026 clothes are remarkably simple.
But increasingly, simple is not the same thing as generic.
“The Fall 2026 piece worth noticing is not necessarily the loudest one. It is the one specific enough to change how everything around it is read.”
Research & Methodology · September 2026
This GTWJ forecast is based on research across the Fall/Winter 2026 collections, current consumer search behaviour, retail arrivals, market adoption, sell-through, fashion-month street style, social acceleration and product-demand data.
We looked for repetition across different signals rather than treating every runway appearance or sudden increase in attention as a trend. A runway idea can be creatively important without becoming commercially significant. An item can be heavily searched without translating into lasting adoption. Retailers can increase supply without consumers ultimately embracing the product.
The strongest GTWJ forecasts are therefore the places where several forms of evidence begin pointing in the same direction.
Percentages throughout the report retain their original measurement type — including search growth, social interest, retail growth, market adoption and predicted visibility — and should not be interpreted as interchangeable measures. GTWJ confidence ratings are editorial assessments based on the breadth and convergence of the evidence reviewed.
